The best way to get from NYC to Hammondsport, NY is by car. The drive takes approximately five hours across US-17 and I-86 and is a great way to see some of the beautiful countrysides in upstate New York. Once out of the city, the roads open up, traffic is practically non existent and the trip is very pleasant. Along the way, you’ll pass through the Catskill Mountains, the Hudson Valley, and the Finger Lakes region. If you have time, we recommend making a few stops along the way to explore some of the best upstate New York offers.

Best Places to Stop On the Way to and While You are in Hammondsport

One of the best things about driving from NYC to Hammondsport is the many scenic places to stop and explore along the way. If you’re looking for a quick jaunt outside of NYC, we recommend stopping at Bear Mountain State Park, which is only about an hour and a half from the city. Bear Mountain is a great place to hike, picnic, or just take in the stunning views of the Hudson Valley while on the way to the Finger Lakes.

If you’re looking to add more adventure to your road trip, we recommend stopping at Watkins Glen State Park and Letchworth State Park. Watkins Glen is one of the most popular state parks in New York and is known for its beautiful waterfalls. On the other hand, Letchworth State Park is nicknamed the “Grand Canyon of the East” and is a must-see for anyone visiting upstate New York. Both parks are less than three hours from NYC.
