Everything You Need to Know About the Finger Lakes in the Winter

In the colder months, the Finger Lakes region of New York transforms into a winter wonderland. Our town gets 47 inches of snow per year, so it’s a great destination for winter fun! During this time of year, enjoy indoor and outdoor activities like skiing, shopping, wine tasting, and more. Be sure to pack your thickest winter coat, though, and temperatures stay below freezing for most of the season!

When you’re ready to plan your trip to the Finger Lakes in the winter, request our free Hammondsport Destination Guide. This online guide is filled with local recommendations on how to enjoy a trip to our area during any time of year!

5 Things to Do in the Finger Lakes in the Winter

1. Visit a Museum

The Glenn H. Curtiss Museum is one of our favorite attractions in town! This regional history museum focuses on the life and legacy of motorcycle & aviation pioneer Glenn Curtiss, including his impact on the aviation industry. However, the museum also highlights the history of Hammondsport, Keuka Lake, and other regional stories. Best of all, it’s less than a half-mile down the street from the Hammondsport Hotel, so it’s easy to visit this museum during your stay!

2. Go Shopping

Whether you’re searching for holiday gifts or a memento to remember your trip by, you can find nearly anything you’re looking for at our area’s shops. The Cinnamon Stick is one of our most beloved shops in Hammondsport. Here, you can find collectibles, one-of-a-kind gifts, and local treats!

3. Book a Wine Tasting or Visit a Brewery

Keuka Lake is home to 20 fantastic wineries. To get a taste of the best Finger Lakes wine, embark on the Keuka Lake Wine Trail. This wine tour features eight of the area’s finest wineries. View the Keuka Lake Wine Trail brochure to see what’s in store for your adventure!

There are also several amazing breweries in the Finger Lakes region. One of our favorites is Finger Lakes Beer Company, known locally as Finger Lakes Brewing, which is directly next door to our hotel that guests can access via a walking path between the two buildings.

4. Ski at Bristol Mountain

No trip to the Finger Lakes in the winter would be complete without playing in the snow! Plan a ski day at Bristol Mountain during your trip. This ski resort is a 45-minute drive from Hammondsport, but it’s worth every mile! This ski resort boasts 38 slopes, so there’s something for skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels. Bristol Mountain also has a Snowsports School, which is great for children, first–timers, or those who simply want to brush up on their skills!
