The History of Boating on the Finger Lakes
The Finger Lakes region has a long and storied history with boating that dates back centuries. It was first introduced by Native Americans who used canoes and other small craft for fishing and transportation purposes. Later on, settlers began building larger vessels such as sloops and schooners for commercial use in transporting goods around the lakes. As technology advanced over time, new materials were developed which allowed for faster and more efficient boats to be built. This led to an increase in recreational boating activities such as sailing, rowing, motorboating, water skiing, and more.
Boating on the Finger Lakes Today
Today, the Finger Lakes region is home to many marinas where people can rent boats or take lessons on how to operate them safely. There are also numerous boat shows held throughout the year where visitors can see some of the latest models on display and the boating museum sells donated boats to benefit their operational fund.
