When’s the Best Time to Bike in the Finger Lakes?
One of the things we love most about the Finger Lakes region is that we experience each season. That said, summer and fall are the best times of the year for biking in the Finger Lakes. You can enjoy mild temperatures, beautiful scenery, and no dangerous ice or snow during these seasons!
Avid cyclists planning a road trip to the Finger Lakes should consider bringing their bikes along. However, we understand that many of our guests visit from out of state and will need to rent a bike for their adventures.

1. Keuka Outlet Trail
After renting your bike, gear up and hit the Keuka Outlet Trail! This trail connects Keuka Lake to Seneca Lake for seven miles (one way) of beautiful scenery. This hiking and biking trail is suited for outdoorspeople of all skill levels and features a small collection of cascading waterfalls.
2. Watkins Glen State Park
Watkins Glen State Park is the most famous recreation area in the Finger Lakes, making it a must-visit for your next trip to this area! This New York state park offers a combination of paved and unpaved trails, making it an excellent destination for biking or mountain biking. A few popular mountain biking trails include Couch’s Staircase, Gorge Trail (Sentry Bridge), and Mile Point Trail.
3. Cayuga-Seneca Canal Trail
The Cayuga- Seneca Canal Trail is a fantastic hiking and biking trail that starts in Waterloo, NY, and ends at Seneca Lake State Park. Along the way, take in forested and waterfront scenery. It’s a great option for bikers who want to enjoy a leisurely ride around the Finger Lakes region!
